my new best friend

why I am a Bad Mother: reason #253: I spent more time today talking to tech support mens in India that I did talking to my own child. And my network still isn't working quite right booo. Tech support mens v helpful tho, which was a nice change. I'm not going to blame India for all the woes of the modern world, but I find it deeply annoying that call centre staff have to pretend not to be Indian. Why do they have to say 'Hi this is Michael' when they're really Metin or Mohammed or Mohan? Are my compatriots really that narrow minded, that they'd rather not be helped by someone with a foreign name?

Gotta go bed now, got first 40 mile bike ride in the morning eep.

My company has actually issued an advisory to staff warning us to be careful who we are talking to on help lines. Because of, you know, national security or whatever. We're supposed to ASK THEM their nationality.

And then, if they're from some sort of suspect country (?) I guess we're supposed to say No, sorry, can't accept your advice regarding kernel panics, will just sit here quietly until a real amerikun can help me.

hey, you can't be too careful these days. I think we should ask people on helplines their nationality and if they say "I'm an evul al-quaeeda operative from iraqistan planning to bring down western civilization by undermining the home user's faith in wi-fi protocols" then we should probably hang up.
