just a bit of fun

I was wrong. Election news is not more interesting that Pope Still Dead news. Even though I am bored of it all already, I spect I shall be staying up all night on election night, without even a Portillo moment to look forward to. Ah well, there's always Peter Snow in his socks with his swingometer. And if you can't wait, well you can slip your shoes off and be your own Peter Snow in the comfort of your own home hurrah.

I am SO confused about this. "Tony Blair has announced that a general election will be held on 5 May, ending months of speculation" and embarrassed to admit I don't know much about UK politics. Elections are not on a regularly scheduled timetable? Holy cow, that could be bad! At least we know George W. only has four more years then he's gone forever. Will go read more and edumacate myself before making further stupid comments.

You're not stoopid, our electoral system is. A British parliamentary term can last up to a maximum of 5 years, the PM of the day can call an election any time within those 5 years.
Wikipedia explains it here.
